One-day Afghan death toll of U.S. troops hits 7

And so it begins. . . . Los Angeles Times: One-day Afghan death toll of U.S. troops hits 7

And how it's going to end, no one really knows; but it's safe to say that it's not going to end for quite a while, especially against locals who learned their tactics fighting Soviet forces - and who are not especially inclined to trust the Marines to begin with. And take note of the statement by a former deputy assistant secretary of state for South Asia:

"If you start to see evidence that things are getting better, as opposed to worse, then that will make it that much more realistic to expect the political support will remain."

By political support, she's referring to US popular support in the face of higher U.S. casualties.

Prepare yourselves for an avalanche of good news from the front.
