Gaza's reconstruction is going nowhere

As Afghanistan starts to claim more of our attention, Gaza's predicament slinks toward the back burner. But as this piece makes clear, many Gaza families have had their homes destroyed, and cannot rebuild - in great part because Israel won't allow construction materials in. It's the old dual-use conundrum - the same that helped keep thousands of Iraqis destitute under the US/UN-imposed sanctions between 1991 and 2003.

But the Israelis won't even allow paper in (paper?!), so teachers and schools are hamstrung, and thousands of young hearts and minds are hardened.
